What drives the price
- Number of protected workloads (VMs, physical servers, NAS, Microsoft 365, Kubernetes).
- Workload type and data volume: it is not only “how many servers”, but how much must be protected and for how long.
- Subscription term (1, 3, or 5 years) and support level.
- Need for Veeam ONE and SaaS protection.
- Repositories and immutability: additional storage, object storage, and hardened repositories belong to the project, not the license.
- Exchange rate and distributor renewal policy.
Be wary of quotes based only on “number of servers”. An undersized license leaves workloads unprotected; an oversized one becomes recurring cost without use. Correct sizing comes from inventory and the RPO/RTO of each system.

- Assuming a hypervisor snapshot is a backup — it is not, and it does not replace retention and tested restore.
- Not testing restore: the license is paid, but recovery remains unvalidated.
A license does not fix architecture
The license enables the software; real protection depends on the design. A well-built Veeam environment separates the repository from production, uses immutability against ransomware, keeps a secondary copy, and tests restore periodically. That combination sustains the agreed RPO and RTO.
If the environment still lacks an immutable repository and tested restore, licensing should be handled together with the backup project — not as an isolated software purchase.
